You might be thinking, 'what is Hill Country Contemporary?' This architectural evolution combines the woodsy warmth of a log home with the open feeling of contemporary style. Special features comprising this look are numerous vaulted ceilings, large window schedule, low maintenance exterior, numerous fireplaces with large outdoor living areas, and large front and rear rooms. Like any well-planned home, the design must blend well to the natural setting, sunlight exposures and capitalize on the unique elements of the site. |

One of our current projects is a new style of custom home outside Tulsa proper on a hill overlooking rural Creek County, Oklahoma. This is a "from the ground up" development for this home on 70 acres. The developer provided 10 acre building pads with minimal road and utility access. Our clients purchased 7 of the sites which meant we had quite a bit of work to do to turn the overall acreage into a build-ready condition. The site has 10 acres nestled on a hilltop with stunning views of the countryside and it was the obvious choice for the location of the home. The hilltop had significant rock outcroppings where the owner wanted to place the home. We literally excavated a 300' x 300' area of rock mixed with soil down an average of 3' and in the area of the swimming pool, 6' so there was no blasting or jack hammering later for foundations or pool. The excavated rock was then crushed and re-mixed with the soil then graded and compacted for a building pad. This work was done in conjunction with cutting a road up the hill from the lower level to provide long term access to the home site. This work encompassed the first 3 months of the building process and was completed several months before the plans were actually ready to build allowing the rebuilt area of the site time to "mature."
This is our 2nd custom home for this client and they had a good idea of general shape and layout of the home and that's where we started. Over several months the specific style evolved as well as the final layout. The initial floor plan was grand and out of budget so we did some streamlining and downsized the project for budget considerations. Finally the plans underwent another metamorphosis and the final layout that resulted from these 9 months of consideration is the one we built.
This is a 3 bedroom 3.5 bath home that we've coined "hill country contemporary" style. It also includes a billiard room and a workout room as well as front and rear outdoor living areas under roof. The main living area is 22' x 56' for an incredible "integrated" living area with kitchen, dining, and living all in the same large space with vaulted ceilings to 17'. This rustic ranch has an exceptional offering and that is the oversized window schedule to accommodate the wonderful view.
A concern of the client especially being out of Tulsa proper, was the response time for fire trucks and other emergency services. To help with that concern we incorporated a lightning protection system, state of the art security system with video surveillance, phone system, and of course the popular 'safe room' which also serves as a closet for one of the bedrooms. Future improvements on the lower level of the acreage include a 5 acre pond, stalls, paddock, workout arena and stables for the horses.
